Abita Box-- New Louisiana Box
Abita Box-- New Louisiana Box
The Abita Box
Abita Springs, LA-- St. Tammany Parish
Planted June 2, 2002
This short trek begins at the large pavilion in the Abita Springs Park. Abita Springs is located on the Tammany Trace, but quite a distance from the other boxes close to the trace. From the pavilion, find the foot bridge and cross the river. Follow the trail on the right, crossing a fallen tree. Continue down the the trail until you reach a culvert. From the culvert, find the first pine at 75 degrees and about 12 paces. From this tree, go 18 paces at 308 degrees. Here you will find the Abita Box.
Caution: There could be snakes and other crawling things, but I had the most problems with mosquitoes and fire ants.
